On one side of the model are the teeth as the patient would see them in their mouth, and on the other side of the model is a cross-section that clarifies what happens around the implants under the gingiva in periodontal disease.

The left implant shows healthy conditions.

The crowns of the left and middle implants are removable so that the healthy and inflamed subgingival conditions can be seen and compared.

The rightmost implant is mobile, indicating severe peri-implantitis with significant bone loss.

Before implant insertion, the model can help the patient understand the risk of peri-implantitis and the importance of maintenance once treatment is complete.

After implant insertion, the model can be used to inform and demonstrate how best to clean around the implant with a toothbrush and floss to ensure a good prognosis.

By showing the inflammation subgingivally when the crowns are lifted off, the patient is motivated for regular check-ups at the clinic and good home dental care.

For peri-implantitis patients, the model can visualize why treatment in the early stages of the disease increases the possibility of full recovery.
