Vertical preparations – “Verti preps”

7.500,00 DKK

Participants

Hands-on course with Dentist Malte Heinrich & Dental Laboratory Technician Jasmin Zilic

Short about the course

A unique opportunity to follow the entire process from the dental chair, through the dental laboratory, and back to the dentist for cementation.

You will gain the knowledge and clinical skills that make both preparation and cementation procedures predictable.

We move from indications and case selection to a concrete workflow: build-up, preparation, scanning, provisionals, and predictable cementation. The collaboration between clinic and laboratory is the focal point: you will see the rationale and cases—and practice the techniques hands-on. Your own work will be scanned and evaluated together with one of Denmark’s most skilled digital dental technicians.

This is a working course, where the outcome is as directly applicable to everyday practice as possible.

Course description

With vertical preparations and zirconia crowns, it becomes possible to work gently and tissue-preservingly while still achieving maximum strength. A key characteristic of vertical preparations is that the tooth preparation ends without a horizontal finish line; in this way, more of the mechanically important tooth structure is preserved. It is an old technique that has experienced a renaissance with the widespread use of zirconium dioxide in dental restorations.

Achieving an appropriate tooth form requires the right burs and techniques. In addition, this approach places demands on soft tissue management and scanning technique. Finally, and not least, close collaboration with your dental laboratory is essential to ensure that the scan is handled correctly and that a crown is produced to fit the preparation. Undercuts and questionable scans are common pitfalls, and vertical preparations are neither “easy” nor “quick.” However, with the right technique, they can help you achieve clean, deep preparation margins while preserving the strength of teeth that would otherwise be at risk of classic horizontal fractures despite crown treatment.

Learning objectives

  • To acquire a new everyday clinical tool in terms of preparation technique.

  • To learn scanning techniques and soft tissue management that can be applied independently of the chosen preparation technique.

  • To take control of the entire process when working with indirect restorations.

  • To understand the laboratory’s requirements for preparation and scan quality, making collaboration more predictable.

  • To experience looking over the dental technician’s shoulder as they continue working with your scan.

  • To practice the techniques through hands-on exercises followed by joint quality assessment of preparations and scans.
