Participants in this course can expect instruction that is thorough, efficient, friendly, and delivered with a sense of humour, all while providing down-to-earth, practical guidance.

The course will include a theoretical overview of the requirements for the strength, aesthetics, and function of provisional restorations in various treatment scenarios. Is the purpose merely to provide short-term protection of the prepared area? Or does the provisional restoration serve a longer-term function as a space maintainer and for occlusal stabilisation?

A provisional may also function as a test for occlusal vertical dimension or as an aesthetic and structural proposal for the final prosthetic restoration. In such cases, it must be evaluated whether the dentist should fabricate the provisional restoration and whether an indirect technique should be used.

During the course, we will practice the design and application of various types of prefabricated and moulded provisional restorations using dental models. The entire procedure, including cementation, will be covered. The workflows will be as realistic as possible, with hands-on exercises on phantom heads. All participants will have access to high-quality phantom heads, dental models, and materials.

Topics covered

  • Purpose and requirements
  • Choice of materials and prefabricated solutions
  • Production of provisionals according to the direct technique
