Travel period: From Saturday, 23 May to Sunday, 31 May 2026

Plump seals bask along the shore, curious puffins peer from the cliffs, and thousands of nesting gannets crowd the sandstone ledges, while the bleating of sheep carries across the landscape. The rolling hills lie cloaked in heather, strewn with the quiet remnants of the sea—empty shells, fragments of barnacles, crab carapaces, and broken claws left behind by gulls. Small tufts of wool cling to the grass among red clover, thistles, giant hogweed, and yellow iris. One may wander the rocky coastline for hours without meeting another soul, save for sheep, birds, a playful otter, and seals lifting their heads from the waves to watch your passage.

On this study trip, Dentalinstituttet combines a few days in Edinburgh with outstanding natural experiences in the Shetland Islands, professional exchange with the islands’ dental practitioners, and a comprehensive professional programme featuring Dr. Geoffrey Bateman and Dr. Edward Bateman.

Dentalinstituttet’s local professional programme in the Shetland Islands is delivered by brothers Geoffrey Bateman and Edward Bateman—two highly specialised British dentists with extensive clinical, academic, and teaching experience. The programme will cover topics including digital dentistry, direct restorative and prosthetic treatments, endodontics, and orthodontics in general practice.

Together, they represent both hospital-based specialist expertise and high-level modern general dental practice. Their combined strength lies in the balance between a high professional standard, clinical realism, and teaching that can be directly translated into improved and more predictable patient care.

As Dentalinstituttet is financially liable for all expenses incurred following final registration, the trip cannot be refunded in the event of cancellation by the participant. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that participants arrange their own cancellation insurance.

If, within a period of 14 days prior to the commencement of the trip, events such as acts of war, natural disasters, life-threatening infectious diseases, or other comparable extraordinary circumstances occur, the trip may be cancelled free of charge. However, this is conditional upon Danish authorities (such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, health authorities, or other public authorities) explicitly advising against travel to the relevant destination, and that such events have arisen after the booking of the trip.
