This book is written by 47 world-renowned experts. In each chapter, at least one clinician and one basic scientist provide research-based facts on this current and rapidly evolving topic. In addition to the classical cell types covered in the first part of the book, organ systems or model systems for cell-to-cell communication of more generic types are presented in four additional chapters in the second part. A special quality of the book   are the colored scanning electron microscopic (SEM) images that very illustratively explain the function of the cell types depicted.
