About the Course

This practical hands-on course is designed for dental assistants who wish to strengthen their skills in dental cleaning and preventive care. During the course, participants will learn to identify and remove calculus, soft and hard deposits, as well as eliminate external stains.
Through a combination of theory and hands-on exercises, participants will gain a thorough understanding of instrumentation techniques, ergonomics, and patient communication in relation to dental cleaning.

After the course, participants will:

  • Have practical experience with dental cleaning techniques
  • Be able to use relevant instruments correctly and safely
  • Be better equipped to assist with preventive treatments

 

Practical Information

Target Group
The course is intended for dental assistants who wish to expand their practical skills in dental cleaning.
No prior experience with instrumentation is required, although a basic understanding of dental care is an advantage.
 
Instructor
Dental assistant Jonna Lund has extensive experience working in clinical practice with a wide range of responsibilities. She has more than five years of experience as a vocational instructor and radiation protection coordinator in the dental assistant programme at EUC Syd in Aabenraa.
Jonna currently works in private practice in Sønderborg and is also employed as a dental specialist at Dentalinstituttet, where she provides training in various topics for dental clinics across Denmark.

  • Anatomy and physiology of teeth and the periodontium
  • Biofilm and calculus formation
  • Indications and contraindications for dental cleaning

Instrumentation and Technique

  • Introduction to scalers, curettes, and ultrasonic instruments
  • Correct grip, angulation, and movement patterns
  • Ergonomics and working posture
  • Proper finger rest techniques during polishing

Hands-on Training

  • Exercises on phantom heads and dental models with artificial calculus
  • Simulation of dental cleaning using hand instruments and ultrasonic devices
  • Polishing techniques with correct finger support

Communication and Patient Guidance

  • How to inform and motivate patients
  • Oral hygiene instruction and home care
